field experience for Foundations of Education
As part of the Teacher Certification program, I will be designing field experiences for each course. This is a critical component of each course so teachers can ground their learnings at each stage in the real application of the theories they are exposed to.
I am currently putting together the field experiences for my first course, Foundations of Education. As part of this course, I plan to gather an understanding of the social, political, legal and economic dimensions of education. Put in simpler terms, I hope to understand the place, value and role of education in society and the constraints on it. My core design concept for this course is to study mainstream american education and more radical educational approaches. As part of the field experience for this course, I plan to attend the PSCS staff and board meetings, to witness the consideration of broad education issues as they are perceived and handled by various school constituencies. I hope to do the same with a more mainstream public school as well. These experiences will form the basis of a compare and contrast exercise of various educational approaches.
